Welcome to walktheta.co.nz, a website dedicated to our adventures on New Zealand’s Te Araroa Trail, also known as the TA.
After 18 months of planning, we’re almost ready to go.
Starting in late October 2019 myself, and my 14 year old son Baxter, will attempt to become the latest people to thru-hike Te Araroa – New Zealand’s long pathway. The TA is a 3,000km journey from Cape Reinga at the top of the North Island, to Bluff at the bottom of the South Island.
The trail takes on average four months to complete, and once we have completed it this site will become a visual guide to the walk with photos and videos of each stage, along with our experiences, anecdotes and any advice we feel might be helpful for other TA walkers.
To help raise funds for our big adventure, we’ve designed a custom Te Araroa Tee. Currently we have two designs available for purchase, each in a variety of sizes and colours, and we hope to add new designs in the future.
While we’re walking the TA, we’ll be posting images of New Zealand’s stunning scenery, the characters we meet, and the trials we will face. If you would like to see these, then please follow us on Facebook or Instagram.
Thanks for visiting, and let the countdown to October begin!
Our first batch of shirts has shipped!
A big thank you to everyone who has purchased a shirt – including people from as far away as Sweden and Croatia.
